At PodcastBig, we help new podcasters develop strategies to create content, traffic, and revenue from podcasts based on our experiences and experimentation.
Podcasts are audio recordings of your favorite blogs, shows and topics (and some you didn’t even realize you liked!) collected into one convenient package so you can listen at your leisure.
Your podcast audio needs to be managed on an external platform such as Libsyn and distributed through streaming platforms to various directories and apps.

Once your episodes are recorded and ready, as well as having created cover art that visually represents them, the next step should be making your audio files available through major podcast directories like Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio or Google Podcasts for listeners to access.
Podcasting can be an excellent way to spread the word about your business, share expertise with audiences and form new relationships. Done correctly, podcasting can also become an engaging, rewarding, and lucrative side hustle if done well – whether for personal or professional use. With this guide at hand, starting a podcast won’t break the bank either! Learn exactly how to plan, record, edit publish and distribute it without ever breaking into debt!
Choose a hosting platform; there are plenty of choices out there such as free options such as Libsyn and Casto. Once that’s in place, create an Apple ID which you will use to manage your podcast through iTunes Podcasts Connect.
Once you have an Apple ID, Podcasts Connect enables you to begin creating your podcast. Here, you will need to enter a name for your show, description and some basic information before being approved for release on Apple Podcasts. Note that technical validation and review processes must first occur for this podcast before being made publically available through Apple Podcasts.
When choosing the name of your podcast, keep in mind that its title is what will appear in directories and search results across major listening apps. Your title should be clear, descriptive, and distinct enough from similar shows in order to set yours apart from them. Also keep in mind if you intend on monetising your show that its name must reflect how you intend on making money off it.
Your episode titles must also be clear, descriptive, and succinct; frontload them with important keywords so they are easily seen on listening app thumbnails and search results. Furthermore, using an easily legible font across devices is highly recommended.

Unlocking the Secrets to Getting Your Podcast on Apple Music
Apple Podcasts is the largest podcast directory, accounting for 26% of downloaded shows. They use a manual review process which may take anywhere between 24 hours to two weeks for new podcasts to be approved by them for listing in their directory.
Start the process off right by creating an Apple ID and signing into Podcast Connect, followed by clicking Add a Show with an RSS Feed. This will open a simple page allowing you to paste in your RSS Feed URL before validating it; any errors reported must first be rectified before continuing with this step.
Followed by filling in all other fields on the page. These include your show’s name, update frequency, category (which defaults to Science & Technology), language media type explicit disclaimer website link. When finished click Submit.
Once submitted, it typically takes around one week for your podcast to appear in iTunes and Apple Podcasts app. If you own an Apple device you can manually check this by navigating to the Apple Podcasts app manually and viewing your list of podcasts – once yours appears you can begin sharing it with family and friends!
Staying true to yourself and keeping podcasting fun are both key elements in creating an effective show that makes an impactful statement about our world.
Last but not least, be sure to upload and prepare your episodes for distribution across other platforms! Libsyn, Podbean and Soundcloud are great starting points; however there are numerous alternatives out there as well.
Additionally to Apple Podcasts, Castos makes it easy for you to submit your show to Spotify – the second largest podcast directory with over 26.8% market share. While Spotify works differently from Apple Podcasts, using our integration with their platform Castos makes submitting quickly and effortlessly – including live stats for Podcasters on Spotify!

Is Your Podcast Ready for Apple Music?
Apple Podcasts is the world’s most acclaimed podcast directory and you need it if you want your show accessible by every iPhone user. Submitting it’s extremely straightforward; an essential step before beginning distribution to other directories.
Before submitting your podcast for consideration on Apple Podcasts, ensure you:
Register an Apple ID: this could be either your personal email address or one used for signing in on your computer.
Libsyn, our host service for podcast files, provides a unique RSS feed URL for each show we publish – this is what needs to be copied and pasted into Apple Podcasts Connect for you to listen.
Once your RSS feed has been submitted to Apple for distribution, it could take anywhere between 24 hours and two weeks before they approve it for distribution. You should receive notification once approved – if this doesn’t happen within seven days, reach out to their podcast support and inquire as to the cause.
As soon as your podcast is approved, it’ll appear in Apple Podcasts app and on all iOS devices – an important first step toward reaching a wider audience of listeners. Furthermore, getting listed in Apple Podcasts directory serves as a minimum requirement to qualify for other directories such as Spotify or Google Play Music.
Once your podcast is live on Apple Podcasts, the Apple Podcasts Connect dashboard offers you an easy way to distribute it across other platforms. While most other podcast apps pull directly from iTunes Podcasts Directory, some major ones such as Spotify and Google Podcasts require you to submit its RSS feed directly for approval by them directly. Within a week (depending on Apple’s review speed) your podcast should begin appearing on these other directories too!

Apple Music can open doors to millions of listeners for your podcast, but to do so you must ensure that its specifications match and have submitted it to iTunes and other directories such as Spotify.
First, log into iTunes Podcasts Connect dashboard if you don’t already have one and create an account for free; this will enable you to manage all of your shows from a central place. When ready, click Add new show button, create your show, and wait up to two weeks until it appears on Apple Music and iTunes.
Your podcast needs some basic information about it for Apple Podcasts Connect to display on their website and apps, and to provide metadata to iTunes and other directory listings. When providing details as best you can about your show – including title, description, episode titles and artwork – make sure that as much detail as possible is filled out accurately. Apple Podcasts Connect uses this data as the foundation for their display as well as for iTunes listings of your show.
Next, upload your episodes. This can be done either directly through your podcast hosting platform or using services like Podomatic. After uploading them, link them back up in Apple Podcasts Connect for quick viewing!
Once you have filled in all of the details and uploaded artwork for your show, submit your podcast to iTunes and wait. Apple reviews every submission manually to ensure it complies with their guidelines; this process typically takes 24-48 hours.
If your show is approved, it will appear instantly in iTunes Store and Apple Podcasts app; however, other platforms such as Spotify or Google Play may take longer.
Once your podcast has been added to Apple Podcasts, the Apple Podcasts Connect web interface makes it easier for listeners to subscribe directly through Apple Podcasts app. Add a link to Apple Podcasts listing from Zencastr show page so listeners can subscribe easily!
