At PodcastBig, we help new podcasters develop strategies to create content, traffic, and revenue from podcasts based on our experiences and experimentation.

YouTube Music currently only offers its podcast feature in the United States; to locate it, users should click on the Podcasts filter at the top of their homepage page.
Podcasts can now be streamed instantly, offline, and while casting. This feature will gradually roll out to American users; it provides a great way to boost productivity and develop skills among content creators.

Podcast listeners now have an additional way to keep up with their favorites: YouTube Music now supports the format, making it available both to free and Premium users alike. This feature is currently rolling out across the United States; mobile users should experience it soon, while Brazil and Canada could gain access to it as well.
The YouTube Music app now offers a separate tab for podcasts, with Explore featuring a podcast feed specifically. Here, you can select specific episodes or playlists of a specific show or select categories like Gaming, True Crime and Political Commentary to receive recommendations. As with other mood filters, you can keep listening, play next or save an episode for later – plus keep track of recently added episodes or manage a list of your favorites through Library tab.
No separate app is necessary for podcasts; however, you may still download Google Podcasts if you would like more features such as searching and discovery. YouTube Music could benefit by adding podcasts if it wants to compete with Spotify, which recently hit 500 million monthly active subscribers.
To listen to podcasts on YouTube Music, just tap the “Podcasts” smart chip at the top of either iOS or Android and select an episode from the list or search. Alternatively, add any episode directly into an ‘Episodes for Later’ playlist by tapping the three-dot menu and choosing this option.
As with its other listening features, on-demand and offline streaming, background audio, and casting are available to paying subscribers of YouTube Music. Non-paying subscribers will still hear ads when listening to podcasts; YouTube says it is working to improve this experience and plans to bring podcasts to more countries; adding podcasts could help YouTube Music compete with more established services like Spotify that boast greater global coverage; it might also encourage podcast creators to upload their videos directly onto the core YouTube platform so their work will reach a broader audience.

How Can You Discover Podcasts on YouTube Music?

Podcasts are now finally a part of YouTube Music! This update is gradually being rolled out to users across all regions, starting in the US. When you access your home feed, there will now be a Podcasts tab across the top. Filters within search as well as inside library allow for mixing podcasts with music content allowing for further personalization of playlists and library selection.
YouTube Music Premium subscribers will gain access to ad-free listening, offline support and the ability to stream podcasts in the background without ads appearing – depending on the creator, this may include host read endorsements or sponsor messages that appear during playingback or casting. Nonpaying users may still see ads appear when streaming in this mode as they would do when listening directly via streaming from YouTube Music’s app or websites; but paying users can take advantage of additional features including background listening as well.
YouTube Music’s decision to add podcasts is an innovative move by Google that could position them as an all-in-one destination for user’s content needs. Already offering an extensive catalog of music, this could become an even stronger contender against Spotify if it can attract enough podcast listeners.
On the Now Playing screen, you’ll find standard 30-second rewind and 10-second skip options, as well as sleep and scrubbing controls. In addition, track artwork can be changed, and there are buttons at the bottom that allow users to share via social media or email. When clicking into an episode, you may also have more options, such as increasing or decreasing playback speed (up to 1.8x in quarter increments), as well as access to a three-dot menu with Play Next, Save for Later, and Info options.
However, some details remain to be determined. It remains to be seen whether podcasts will be part of YouTube Red’s bundle that includes ad-free streaming of videos and original content – this could be crucial given many podcast listeners subscribe to YouTube Red as their preferred video streaming service and may not want a separate podcast service.

Are You a Podcast Listener Looking for a Platform to Tune In to Your Favorite Shows? YouTube Music now offers you a solution: the service has announced that they will begin rolling out podcasts to all users, even those without Premium subscriptions, giving them access to on-demand, offline, and casting listening experiences just like with music! Currently rolling out in the US with iOS, Android and web versions to come soon –
As soon as you launch the YouTube Music app, a dedicated Podcasts tab will appear at the top of the page, featuring trending episodes. In addition, your Explore section of the site also contains an episode list where you can easily add any episode you find to a playlist or share with friends – those hosting their own shows can upload audio episodes directly onto this platform!
YouTube Music subscribers, not just paying ones, will gradually receive these new features over the course of 2018. This marks the first time podcasts are being integrated into its core streaming service – something which should make YouTube Music an even stronger competitor against Spotify in terms of paid subscriptions.
Podcasts on YouTube Music will come as a welcome surprise for many listeners who use the service to listen to talk shows while exercising or doing housework, and may help introduce podcasting as a form of media to more listeners who may not already enjoy podcasts. Furthermore, this could open up YouTube Music’s reach beyond existing fans of podcasting formats.
Team YouTube announced Thursday in a support post that podcast features are now gradually rolling out across iOS, Android and the web for all US listeners. While free accounts can access YouTube Music’s feature set for podcasts without paying subscription fees to Premium (more music features available through subscription), those paying Premium gain access to more music features. Reddit and 9to5Google shared screenshots showing its updated interface containing podcasts; it’s now playing area dominates screen space while its scrubbing bar runs along the bottom edge.

Podcast enthusiasts who rely on YouTube Music will soon have an easier way to access podcasts. The app will soon add podcasts to its playlists, search results and home tab. This feature is being gradually released for US users before becoming available worldwide – further broadening YouTube’s appeal as an audio and video platform!
YouTube Music’s podcast additions will now appear alongside music in its home tab, under a “Podcasts” tab alongside five mood filters (Keep Listening, Recommend Episodes, Your Shows and various categories like Gaming True Crime Political Commentary) as well as in an Auto playlist with new episodes from subscribed podcasts. Furthermore, podcasts can also be found within Library tab alongside songs, albums, playlists and artists.
Users can select the three-dot icon on an episode to play it fully, save it for later, or share it. In addition, there is the option to switch between audio and video versions; however, YouTube warns that it may only play back full for short amounts of time.
Uploading podcasts to YouTube Music can be done using third-party tools such as Anchor and Stitcher; however, due to YouTube being a video-based platform it differs slightly from traditional podcast directories where an RSS feed can be uploaded and the show picked up from there.
Google hopes that adding podcasts to YouTube Music could help it compete with Spotify, which recently reached 500 million monthly active users. However, this decision may have mixed success; while some listeners may move from video platforms over, most likely staying within their main apps to continue listening to their shows. Still, podcasters themselves could gain more listeners through this move; hopefully increasing subscriptions both ways and possibly drawing in newcomers altogether. This launch marks an effort by Google to take an even larger share of the music and streaming market.
