If your data caps are limited, downloading podcast episodes instead of streaming them could help save data usage. Just be wary about how many you download; even downloading one episode may use up plenty of your allotted data! To manage downloads you can access Settings and tap Auto download episodes; from there toggle the switch for “Only Wi-Fi”, so new episodes will only download when your device is connected to Wi-Fi network and set “Allow Cellular Data,” to allow Google Podcasts download episodes even when connected via cell network connection.
Data portability is one of the great benefits of podcasting ecosystem, enabling subscribers to easily move subscriptions between podcast apps. This is especially true if you have many episodes downloaded that you no longer listen to; to reduce their storage footprint you can either manually delete episodes from your queue or use an app that automatically deletes them once finished with listening.
If your mobile data plan has a limited data cap, one way to reduce podcast data usage and save some is by configuring the app to only stream while connected to Wi-Fi networks. You may also enable data usage warnings so that you know when approaching your data limit.
