Since its debut on iOS 11.2 and later, Podcasts app’s continuous playback feature can make for perfect long commutes or binge watching sessions; however, random playing can become irritating over time.
Here are a few things you can try to prevent your podcast from playing on your iPhone: 1. Check your internet connection.

Is Your Podcast Constantly Interrupted? Try These Internet Fixes!
At times it can be very irritating when your favorite podcast stops playing midstream due to losing internet connectivity or due to another app playing sound or your headphone volume being accidentally reduced. However, there are steps you can take in order to try and rectify this situation.
One of the main causes for podcast app malfunction is an interrupted internet connection. Check that your Wi-Fi network is operating optimally, or that if not, use an excellent mobile data service plan if possible. Also use Apple Server Status website to determine any outages.
If your podcast plays at an inappropriate speed, it can seriously impair the listening experience. Finding it hard to follow a speaker who speaks rapidly can also cause you to lose track of conversations. To address this problem, it may help if you set it back to its normal playback speed by tapping on its title bar or clicking “2x” or “1.5x” buttons – both steps should do it!
Podcasts may start playing automatically if they’re connected to an external output device like speakers, headphones, or car audio systems. In such an instance, make sure the device has settings that automatically pause or stop podcast playback when not being used.
If the podcast app automatically pauses itself when you lock your phone, this may be caused by an operating system bug. To solve it, update or upgrade to a new version of the podcast app may help, otherwise delete and reinstall should do the trick – though this will lose all preferences/customizations but may solve the issue! If any further trouble arises please reach out to their support team so they can investigate further.

Is Your iPhone Battery Draining Too Quickly?
Podcasts can quickly consume all the resources of your device when you listen to them regularly, which could cause them to drain faster. If this concerns you, make sure your phone remains plugged in during listening sessions, take breaks while listening, and select power-saving mode while doing so.
If you’re using Apple Podcast app on iOS, it may play in the background even when your phone is locked. This is a known issue; however, there are steps you can take to rectify this situation. For starters, ensure your iPhone doesn’t automatically connect to CarPlay when powered on; otherwise disable this feature in Settings app to prevent this problem.
Clear the Podcasts app’s data. This should clear out any temporary files it has collected over time and may help resolve your problem. If that fails, rebooting could help; as this resets all apps and system settings to factory default and could solve your issues.
Podcasts may stop playing due to your device’s internet connection being interrupted – which may happen if you are connected to a public WiFi network or when your wireless carrier goes down for maintenance.
Frustrating! Finding yourself on an extended road trip without enough content to keep you company is especially disorienting, if that means finding new podcasts every few hours to listen to. If your podcasts suddenly stop working properly or suddenly stop responding entirely, make sure your internet connection is functioning normally as well as checking if volume settings for headphones have been turned down or the volume cannot be turned up on them.
If you’re listening to podcasts while driving, the Auto Pause feature of the Podcasts app can help to save battery power by pausing audio when your phone turns off or sleeps. This can be an excellent way to save your power reserve during longer car journeys!

Is Your iPhone Constantly Playing Podcasts? Try These Settings!
If your podcast app isn’t playing or keeps restarting itself, there may be an issue with its settings. Check to make sure your iPhone isn’t in “Low Data Mode.” This setting limits data usage and may cause problems for podcast apps.
If that does not resolve the problem, try switching off mode or rebooting your device; both should help clear away any bugs or errors preventing a podcast from playing correctly.
Finally, try disabling the continuous playback feature of your podcast app. This feature was intended to allow for continuous listening of episodes after they have ended, which may be useful on long commutes or drives; however, if left active it can become irritating as new episodes will keep starting up even though they have already been completed.
Your phone might also not have access to an effective Wi-Fi network for streaming content, so in that instance you might need to reset its network settings or upgrade in order to address the problem.
Your iPod Touch or iPhone might not feature an ideal microphone; in such an instance, try connecting to another mic or investing in better headphones to help improve the audio experience.
Finally, your phone may not be showing the correct number of episodes available to watch; in such an instance, updating its software might help.
Finally, to make sure your iPhone isn’t using too much data, take a look at its settings. To do so, navigate to the “Podcasts” setting in Settings – this way you can set episodes only download when WiFi is available – this could save a significant amount of data over time! Alternatively, Apple Carplay or third-party podcast apps with Bluetooth control of music could provide another solution.

If your podcast app is randomly starting or stopping playing audio episodes, a couple of things you can try include disabling background play to keep audio from starting and stopping automatically when you move between apps or lock your phone; and switching off shuffle to prevent the app from automatically playing older podcasts first and to ensure new episodes come into your queue before they are played out of order.
If you are using Apple CarPlay, try disabling auto-playback; this will stop your iPhone from automatically playing music or podcasts through your car speakers. As an alternative solution, forcing quitting the podcast app may remove it from RAM, as well as any background activity that could be preventing it from working properly. Simply tap the Sleep Timer Moon button in the Podcasts app for this task.
A feature that many Podcasts users don’t realize exists is this hidden feature tucked under a swipe up gesture that performs various tasks depending on where on the screen it occurs (Control Center for some iPhone devices and Home on iPhone X-style phones for instance). This is an effective way of making sure Podcasts won’t keep playing after you close them, especially in environments with loud background noise such as cars.
Becoming unsatisfied when your podcast stops playing in the middle of an exciting story or informative show can be frustrating, yet this issue is surprisingly rarely experienced and easily rectifiable. Most commonly it’s caused by losing WiFi or mobile data connection which prevents your phone from streaming content – although other factors could cause your podcast to stop working as well. For these cases there may be other solutions found within this article which might work.
If the above solutions don’t help resolve this issue, it could be due to a software defect in iOS. If this is indeed the case, a professional iOS repair tool such as Tenorshare ReiBoot might be beneficial; this program will restore your iPad if it becomes stuck in Recovery Mode or DFU Mode and restore its operating system back into good health.
